Carson Kallis tied for seventh at Canadian junior golf championship

Red Deer’s Carson Kallis fired a 1-under 71 Wednesday and was tied for seventh heading into today’s third round of the 72- hole Canadian junior men’s golf championship at Richmond, B.C.

Kallis, with a two-round total of even-par 144, enters today’s action nine shots back of leader Richard Jung of Toronto (65-70-135). Raoul Menard of Ange-Gardien, Que., is second at 137 (69-68) and Wilson Bateman of Spruce Grove sits third at 139 (68-71).

Two Red Deer golfers — Zach Griffiths and Jesse Teron — missed the cut. Griffiths turned in a 76 Wednesday to go with his opening-round 80 and finished at 12-over 156, while Teron came in at 18-over 162 with rounds of 80-82.

Ontario captured the team title.

• Theo Olver of Three Hills shot an 86 Wednesday to finish tied for fifth in the boys’ 14 and under category of a McLennan Ross Sun Junior Tour event at Calgary Pinebrook.
