The CBC’s television coverage of the NHL Stanley Cup final will reach across Canada and even into orbit.

This year’s series is a rematch of last year’s final as the defending champion Detroit Red Wings battle the young Pittsburgh Penguins.

CBC will broadcast the games in high definition across Canada and send Don Cherry’s Coach’s Corner into space where Canadian Space Agency astronaut Robert Thirsk can view it while flying aboard the Soyuz TMA-15 spacecraft.

The series opens with back-to-back games Saturday (CBC, NBC, 7 p.m.) and Sunday from Detroit (CBC, NBC, TBA).

The series will shift to Pittsburgh for Game 3 Tuesday (CBC, 6 p.m.) and Thursday (CBC, 6 p.m.).

If necessary, Game 5 will be Saturday at Detroit (CBC, NBC, 6 p.m.). Game 6 is scheduled for June 9 at Pittsburgh (CBC, NBC, 6 p.m. ) and Game 7 June 12 at Detroit (CBC, NBC, 6 p.m.).
