Kings, Queens elite club basketball program ready to rule the floor

Central Alberta Basketball Club will be running its Queens and Kings elite club programming for a third year in a row.

Both Queens and Kings sides of the club will offer teams at the U17, U15 and U13 age levels.

The Queens side will also offer a Junior Queens development program for athletes graduating high school. Those interested can contact coach Ken King at Red Deer College.

Tryouts will take place April 7 and 8. Times and locations will be announced through cabcqueens.ca website and Central Alberta Basketball Club Facebook page in the coming weeks.

The club is excited to build on a successful 2017 that saw both the U17 Kings and Queens medal at major tournaments and produce talented players who are playing major roles on their high school squads.

Additionally, the Red Deer College men’s and women’s basketball teams have several players who have participated in the club over the past few years on their current rosters.

The elite team program looks to continue to grow the game and build athletes into post secondary-calibre players this year.

The CABC hasn’t forgotten young players.

The club will run its first year of spring league under the banner Spring League: Our Way.

This spring league will run in a three-on-three format for ages six to eight and eight to 11. The format is designed to provide very little “standing and watching” time for the athletes by providing high reps and engagement.

“The program sets out to further develop fundamental basketball in a way that prevents kids from becoming bystanders in the game,” said Ken King, CABC president.

The hope is the youth league will begin to build fundamentals developed in a game-like atmosphere, with an opportunity to spend quality time on the court, which translates directly into elite club basketball.

There is no previous experience necessary and more information is available on the website.
