Not even Hurricane Nicole could stop some of Canada’s best young golfers last weekend.
From Nov. 11 to 13, 110 golfers competed in the Maple Leaf Junior Tour (MJT) National Championship in Orlando, Fla. at the Orange County National Golf Club.
On the first day, they held a practice round followed by two rounds of competition after Hurricane Nicole impacted the tournament.
Of the many competitors in the national championship, some from central Alberta had a successful outing including Innisfail’s Brae Rogalczyk. Rogalczyk finished third in the bantam boys’ division after he shot five over par and two under par through the weekend.
Rocky Mountain House’s Saylar May captured a third-place finish in the girls’ U15 division after she shot 11 over par and seven over par.
Also from Alberta was Camrose’s Devin Kucy who was the champion of the junior boys’ division with an impressive even par and one over par performances.
“I feel great – it’s a great way to close out my junior career,” said Kucy in a media release.
This marked the end of the MJT season and they can’t wait to get started again next summer.
