Central Albertans have strong showing at wrestling provincials

A pair of Red Deer athletes and others from central Alberta had success at the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA) Rural Wrestling Provincial Championships in Grande Prairie.

Two from Notre Dame High School, Amy Aulenback placed fourth in female 53 kg and Roryck Peterson won gold in the 120 kg event.

Meanwhile, also in central Alberta four competitors from Wetaskiwin Composite had medal finishes. Brooke O’Connor finished with the bronze medal in the female 70 kg event, Malachi Shuffler claimed the gold medal in male 53 kg, Konner Partington placed third in male 62 kg, and Darius Shauffler won gold in male 72 kg.

Aiden Mann from St. Joseph High School in Red Deer also had a fantastic event winning gold in male 82 kg.

In terms of team success, in male 3A Wetaskiwin Composite finished in second place and St. Joseph in third.
