Over the weekend schools from central Alberta competed in the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA) High School Track and Field Championships in Edmonton.
Over the two-day competition athletes from the area saw success in multiple events.
In the women’s outdoor Pentathlon finals, Camrose’s Allyson Thain claimed first place with 2,841 points.
Later on in the junior women’s high jump Notre Dame’s Paige Zinger grabbed the top spot with a 1.60m jump. She also competed in the junior 80m hurdles placing second with a time of 12.59.
Notre Dame showed how quick they can be winning the junior women’s 4X100m relay in 51.40 seconds. All four members including Georgia Stevens, Aurelia Kozoletova, Cassidy Bouchard, and Paige Zinger finished a full second ahead of Edmonton’s Harry Ainlay.
Notre Dame’s Olivia McAuley claimed the silver medal in the intermediate women’s high jump with a 1.55m jump. McAuley wasn’t finished there capturing silver in the women’s javelin throw with 37.42m.
Also from Notre Dame, Sydney Zinger got bronze in the intermediate women’s pole vault with 2.85m.
Lacombe’s Marika Meadus did well in the women’s intermediate triple jump winning silver in 10.69m in the finals.
Penhold Crossing’s Katlynne Pasutto repeated as champion in the senior women’s 80m hurdles in a time of 12.33. She also earned a bronze in the 100m and a silver in the 4x100m relay competing with Camrose.
In senior women’s high jump, Lindsay Thurber’s Tricia Madourie claimed the gold medal with a 1.71m jump. Also from Lindsay Thurber includes a silver medal finish in senior women’s javelin throw by Maddy DeZutter. She threw it 37.65m in the finals.
Moving over to the men’s side, Lacombe’s Brady Keller had himself a day winning the gold medal in both the junior men’s 1,500m and 3,000m runs.
In junior men’s pole vault, Hunting Hills Ilya Keeper took home the bronze with a 3.00m jump.
Notre Dame’s Josh Gillard finished off a speedy run to capture silver in the intermediate men’s 400m in 51.76 seconds.
From Lindsay Thurber, Jamie Debruijn won gold with a 3.20m performance in the intermediate men’s pole vault.
In the combined team rankings, a pair of schools from the senior division were among the top teams in their respective zones.
Camrose Composite finished fifth with 115 points followed by Lindsay Thurber in eighth with 96 points.
