A pair of Central Alberta golfers have been named to the 2024 men’s and women’s Team Canada squads.

Lacombe’s Brady McKinlay was one of four golfers selected to compete for the Team Canada men’s team and Red Deer’s Eileen Park was one of 11 athletes selected to Team Canada’s NextGen girls team.

McKinlay, 21, will join Team Canada for the first time in 2024 after he won the Talihade Cup as part of a team in Buenos Aires for Canada. He’s expected to go professional in the new year.

Eileen Park, 14, won the Canadian Junior Girls Championship earlier this year and will also be joining Team Canada’s NextGen program for the first time.

The two golfers are among 39 amateur athletes and 10 coaches selected to both the women’s and men’s Team Canada squads and the NextGen teams.

Darcy Dhillon, who is a pro at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club, was also selected to be an assistant coach on Team Canada’s NextGen team.

The NextGen program helps young golfers who are making their way to the college golf level and the Team Canada program supports amateurs on the path to playing professional golf.

The teams were selected based on the golfer’s performances last season and how they played during Golf Canada’s selection camp in September.
