VANCOUVER — Chad Campbell shot a 3-under-par 67 on Friday to take the clubhouse lead at the RBC Canadian Open.
Campbell is at 4 under, one shot up on fellow American Paul Goydos, who fired a second-round 69.
“I was able to make a few putts,” Campbell said. “It’s a good, old-style golf course. Those are what I like to see.”
Said Goydos: “It’s a par-70 and playing very hard. You’ve got to stay out of the (rough) and make putts. I kind of did most of that all day.”
Lee Janzen was also at 3 under after birdies on two of his first five holes in round two.
Scott Piercy was 4 under through nine holes Friday, but finished his round at even par.
First-round leader Kris Blanks double-bogeyed the first hole to drop to 1 under at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.
Matt McQuillan of Kingston, Ont., was the top Canadian at 2 under after the first round of the US$5.2-million event.
Meanwhile, Mike Weir of Bright’s Grove, Ont., withdrew six holes into his second round because of an elbow injury.
He shot 74 in the first round and was 4 over on the day when he called it quits.
