Esquimalt council candidate list finalized

Desjardins won't face competition for the mayor's seat

It's official. Eight Esquimalt candidates are vying for six council seats in the November municipal election.

The estimated 12,782 eligible voters in the township will be able to choose among eight candidates to fill six seats on council.

There is no contest for the role of mayor. Mayor Barb Desjardins will be acclaimed for her second mayoral term by Oct. 24.

After the nomination process came to a close Friday afternoon (Oct. 14), municipal staff held a random draw to determine the order of candidate names on municipal election ballots.

The list will look like this: Bob McKie, David Schinbein, Dave Hodgins, Meagan Brame, Lynda Hundleby, Sandra Dixon, Tim Morrison, and Josh Steffler.

Both Hundleby and Brame are currently serving as councillors.

Advanced voting takes place Nov. 9 and 16 at Esquimalt Municipal Hall, 1229 Esquimalt Road, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on general election day, Nov. 19, at the municipal hall, also from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

An all-candidates meeting is being jointly organized by the Esquimalt Chamber of Commerce and the Esquimalt Residents Association. It will be held Nov. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Esquimalt High School's theatre, 847 Colville Rd.
