Chiefs finish undefeated in pool play at Mac’s Tournament

The Red Deer Optimist Chiefs are rolling at the Mac’s Tournament.

They finished pool play with another victory Sunday, their fourth straight.

With a 2-1 win over the Notre Dame Hounds, Red Deer finished first in Pool 2 and earned a quarter-final date against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

In the win over the Hounds, Josh Zinger opened the scored for the Optimist Chiefs late in the second.

Sawyer Senio made it 2-0 at 13:23 of the third before Jacob Dale responded for Notre Dame. For the second straight game, Red Deer hung on to earn the one-goal victory.

Bretton Park made 26 saves to earn the win in the Red Deer net.

Red Deer will play the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Monday at 9 a.m. On Dec. 16, before the Christmas break in Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League play, the Hurricanes knocked off the Optimist Chiefs 3-2 in Lethbridge.
