Chiefs off and running

Calgary Axemen Cordell Hastings was unable to stop Red Deer Chief Payton Lagrange from getting past him and have a shot on net even though he outsized his opponent in provincial peewee A lacrosse action Friday. Chiefs won 9-8.

The Red Deer Chiefs won a pair of games in the peewee A division of the provincial lacrosse championships here Friday.

The Chiefs edged the Calgary Axemen 9-8 and the Posse 10-3.

The Posse also lost 10-4 to the Hornets (Goods), who lost 6-5 to the Edmonton Warriors.

In other action the Hornets (Gillis) lost 8-2 to the Warriors and 11-2 to the Axemen.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs posted a 1-1 record in the midget A division, downing Vermilion 7-2 and losing 7-6 to the Sabrecats.

The ‘Cats also edged the Axemen 6-5 while the Hornets beat Vermilion 7-1.

In bantam A play, the Chiefs lost 7-4 to the Axemen, who lost 4-2 to the Sabrecats.

The Sabrecats downed the Blues 9-4 while the Titans beat Lethbridge 8-6 and lost 12-7 to the Blues.

The bantam C division is also in action.

Round-robin play continues today with the playoffs Sunday.
