Chiefs 4 Thunder 3

Ashley Graf’s shot couldn’t have broken a pane of glass, but that’s just fine with the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs.

Graf’s weak shot slipped through Edmonton goaltender Emma Cooley’s legs at 13:57 of the second overtime period to give the Chiefs a 4-3 victory over the Thunder in Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League playoff action Friday at the Arena.

The win gave the Chiefs a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five league final with the fourth game today at 2 p.m. at the Arena. If a fifth game is necessary, it’s Sunday at 2:15 p.m. in Edmonton.

The Chiefs led the game 3-0 just 2:58 into the second period on a pair of goals by Janelle Froehler and a single marker by Jade Petrie, all against Edmonton starter Morgan Glover. However, Jessica Sekulic scored twice and Heather Kashman once for Edmonton ti tie the game at 3-3 after 40 minutes.

The Thunder finished with 46 shots on Camille Trautman, who was outstanding, especially in the first overtime when she stopped Sekulic on a breakaway. The Chiefs had 27 shots.
