Court leads Pronghorns to Canada West title

SHERWOOD PARK — The Lethbridge Pronghorns, with four Central Alberta players on their roster, steamrolled the University of Alberta Pandas 30-0 on Sunday to capture the Canada West University women’s rugby championship.

The Pronghorns, with Canada West all-stars Shannon Court and Amanda Richardson as key members of their team, which also includes Jen Wickwire of Olds and Emily Stearns of Rocky Mountain House, will compete in the CIS championship Nov. 6-8 at Vancouver.

Wolves tamed

Red Deer, on goals from Jaycee Bachelder, Langley Piche and Megan Doiron, defeated the host Edmonton 3-2 Wolves in weekend junior women’s hockey action.

Tanis Duffy and Kelli Giacabbo shared Red Deer goaltending duties.

Golden trifecta

EDMONTON — Gillian Richmond of Red Deer dominated the senior open women’s category at the Edmonton Fall Classic short track speed skating meet during the weekend.

Richmond, who skates with the Olympic Oval program in Calgary, won all three distances for a total of 3,000 points at the first event of the Western Canada Cup circuit.
