Curlers collect RDC Athlete of the Week honours

Both RDC curling teams collected medals at the Canadian College Athletic Association this weekend and on Monday two key contributors were named Athletes of the Week.

Second-year nursing student Brett Day played a vital role in the gold medal win for the RDC women.

The Kyle, Saskatchewan native was named a CCAA Women’s curling All-Star Second. RDC took the gold with a 7-6 win over Concordia, after going 4-3 in round robin play and beat the top-seeded Fanshawe Falcons 7-5 in the semi-finals.

Ryan Dahmer, a fourth year Business Administration student helped lead the Men’s team to the bronze medal at the Rose City Curling Club in Camrose.

The RDC Kings finished round robin play at the National Championship with a 6-1 record. After a loss to the Mohawk Mountaineers in the semi-final, RDC rebounded with a 10-3 win over the Humber Hawks to clinch bronze.

Dahmer was named the CCAA Men’s Curling All-Star Skip for his performance.
