TORONTO — Philadelphia Flyers forward Danny Briere was suspended three games Monday for cross-checking Islanders forward Frans Nielsen in the head.

The incident happened with one minute to play in the third period of Saturday’s 6-1 victory by the Flyers.

Briere and Nielsen exchanged some words before taking a faceoff and Briere delivered the cross-check once the puck was dropped.

He was assessed a five-minute major for cross-checking and a 10-minute misconduct.

The teams are scheduled to play one another again in Long Island on Saturday — the final game of Briere’s suspension.
