Pittsburgh Penguins' Sidney Crosby

Devils 1 at Penguins 6

Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby scored power-play goals and the Penguins ended one of the best homestands in franchise history, routing Martin Brodeur and New Jersey.

Brodeur and the Devils have lost six straight (0-5-1). He hasn’t won since going 9-1 following his return from a biceps injury.

Matt Cooke and Bill Guerin scored 36 seconds apart in the first period to make it 2-0, and Crosby and Jordan Staal made the game one-sided by scoring in a 13-second span of the second.

The Penguins finished 6-1-1 during the longest homestand in franchise history, improving to 13-1-2 since Feb. 25.

Flyers 2 at Maple Leafs 3

Jamal Mayers, Lee Stempniak and Ian White scored for the already-eliminated Maple Leafs in a win over playoff-hopeful Philadelphia.

Arron Asham and Claude Giroux scored for the Flyers, who were outworked all night by the Maple Leafs. Mayers and Asham exchanged goals in an evenly played opening period.

Islanders 3 at Capitals 5

Mike Green’s two power-play goals less than 11/2 minutes apart in the third period and Alex Ovechkin’s NHL-leading 54th marker helped the Capitals close in on a second consecutive division title.

Washington trailed 2-0 early in the second period, then 3-2 after Richard Park scored for New York 2:12 into the third by splitting two Capitals players and flipping a backhand past Jose Theodore.

Nicklas Backstrom added a final-minute goal for Washington, which completed its first season sweep of the Islanders since 2002-03.

Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen each had a goal and an assist for New York.

Sabres 2 at Thrashers 3 (OT)

Ilya Kovalchuk scored on an unassisted breakaway in overtime to lift the Thrashers over Buffalo. The goal was Kovalchuk’s 41st and gave him 30 in 37 games.

With 83 points, the Sabres are four behind ninth-place Florida and five behind Montreal and the playoff cutoff in the Eastern Conference.

Thomas Vanek scored twice for Buffalo. Rookie defenceman Zach Bogosian and Slava Kozlov, with his 25th of the season, also had Thrashers goals.

Blues 1 at Blackhawks 3

Nikolai Khabibulin made 16 saves, and Jonathan Toews, Samuel Pahlsson and Colin Fraser scored for the Blackhawks, which snapped St. Louis’ five-game winning streak.

The Blackhawks moved within one point of clinching their first playoff berth since 2001-02 and their second in 11 seasons. Chicago also jumped one point ahead of Calgary and into fourth place in the Western Conference.

Khabibulin lost a bid for his second shutout when St. Louis’ Jeff Woywitka scored a power-play goal with 1.5 seconds remaining. The Blackhawks, who had lost their previous two games limited the Blues to their second-lowest shot output this season.

Coyotes 3 at Avalanche 0

Al Montoya made 23 saves to earn a shutout in his first NHL game, Mikkel Boedker and Shane Doan scored a goal each, and Phoenix beat reeling Colorado.

Montoya, recalled from the AHL on March 23, led the Coyotes to their third win in four games.

Andrew Raycroft had 32 saves for the Avalanche, who have lost eight straight.
