Dominican Republic rallied for a 3-1 win over Canada on Saturday in a pool B match of the Pan American Cup women’s volleyball tournament.

MIAMI, Fla. — Dominican Republic rallied for a 3-1 win over Canada on Saturday in a pool B match of the Pan American Cup women’s volleyball tournament.

The defending champions defeated the Canadian team, which includes Red Deer native and Libero Julie Young, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21.

Canada, currently ranked 23rd in the world, is competing in Group B in the preliminary round with Brazil (first), Dominican Republic (13th), Argentina (31st), and Trinidad & Tobago (53rd).

USA (second), Peru (17th), Puerto Rico (19th), Mexico (26th), Costa Rica (30th), and Guatemala (48th) round out Group A. The top three teams from each pool advance to the championship playoffs beginning Thursday.
