Double gold for Zanussi

Zac Zanussi led the Red Deer fencing Club with a pair of gold medals at the annual Red Deer Open at the Collicutt Centre during the weekend.

Zanussi won the U15 and U17 mixed sabre competitions and was fifth in the U17 epee.

The Red Deer Club’s head coach, Peter Toshkov, showed his students how it’s done as he topped one of the province’s best in Andrew Pickup of the Epic Club in Calgary, in the men’s epee final.

Karis Langvand won the U20 women’s epee, then turned right around without a break and placed sixth in the women’s epee.

Karren Lyver was third in women’s epee while David Coates took third in the veteran men’s epee and 13th in men’s epee.

Dakota Wohl placed second in the U15 mixed epee, seventh in U17 epee and 10th in U20 epee.

Nathaniel Johnson and Jacob Sysak shared third in the U20 men’s epee while Johnson was 10th in men’s epee.

Surina Elidrissi was fifth and Alyson Biem seventh in U20 women’s epee while Biem took 12th and Elidrissi 13th in the U17 class.

Thomas Usher was eighth in veteran men’s epee and 12th in the men’s division while Cole Adam was ninth in U15 mixed epee and 14th in U17 men’s epee.Thomas Lyver took 11th in U17 men’s epee and 12th in U15 mixed epee.
