Evanecz takes title

Two-time defending Central Alberta amateur champion Mitch Evanecz captured the Red Deer Golf and Country Club club championship with a 54-hole total of six-under par 210.

Evanecz, who is an alternate on Team Canada to compete in the World Amateur team championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina, edged Tom Skinner by one stroke.

Dan Soley took third with an even-par 216 with Darren McArthur at 220, J.D. Morrical at 221, Shaun Howell 223, Grant Lee 224, Merv Dusyk 226 and Ross Andras 230.

Brad Romans won the men’s first flight in a playoff against Ken Evanecz and Mike Moller. The three tied at 236.

Rich Roberts won the second flight with third flight honors going to Del Lomsness and Lorne Zaparniak taking the fourth flight.

Sharon Peart won the ladies’ club championship ahead of Cathy Hebert.

Rubie Wallace won the first flight.
