London Knights centre John Tavares is the top-ranked North American prospect for the 2009 NHL entry draft. Swedish defenceman Victor Hedman is No. 1 among Europeans skaters. Tavares has established an Ontario Hockey League record with 215 career goals, while the six-foot-six, 220-pound Hedman collected 21 points in 43 games for MoDo of the Swedish Elite League this season, earning rookie of the year honours.
