Red Deer Polytechnic athletics have announced Queens volleyball player Jaiden Ferguson and Kings hockey forward Jacob Kendall as the Fas Gas RDP Athletes of the Week.

Ferguson shined for the Queens on Friday with 15 kills, two blocks, and two aces around the net against the Alberta-Augustana Vikings. She also stepped up on defence on the back row and contributed 11 digs.

She was awarded the player of the match and has been a stand-out player in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) with 3.23 kills per set, which is third in the league. She is also in second place in the ACAC with 71 kills and fourth with 0.73 aces per set.

Kendall had a big weekend as the Kings swept the two-game weekend set against the Briercrest Clippers. It was the first time the two teams have met since the Clippers knocked out the Kings in the ACAC playoffs last season and RDP was out for revenge.

Kendall’s weekend began with a one-goal performance during a 6-3 victory on Friday night but the next evening he stepped up his game to the next level. On Saturday Kendall won player of the game after a three-point night contributing a goal and two assists in a 5-3 win at home.

He succeeded on the powerplay with a goal and an assist and is currently in first place in the ACAC with six. He also is third in the league with nine points.
