Red Deer Rebels forward Landon Ferraro has been named to the Canadian national under-18 men’s hockey team for the world U-18 championship April 9-19 in Fargo, N.D., and Moorhead, Minn. The roster is comprised of players — with the exception of Camrose Kodiaks defenceman Dylan Olsen — born in 1991 or earlier whose teams are no longer competing in the Canadian Hockey League playoffs. Ferraro, who is projected as a first-round pick in this year’s NHL entry draft, is one of eight Western Hockey League players on the Team Canada roster. The others are defencemen Brayden McNabb of the Kootenay Ice and Stefan Elliott of the Saskatoon Blades, and forwards Brett Connolly of the Prince George Cougars, Byron Froese of the Everett Silvertips, Garrett Mitchell of the Regina Pats, Cody Eakin of the Swift Current Broncos and Curtis Hamilton of the Blades. Ferraro scored 37 goals and 18 assists for 55 points in 68 games this past season for the Rebels.
