Football Alberta is preparing for a busy long weekend in central Alberta.
They’ll be monitoring air quality levels leading up to the weekend but if it allows they’ll be putting on four different events.
Beginning on Friday, May 19 Team Alberta U18 will host their final selection camp at Great Chief Park in Red Deer where they’ll host 140 players to get the roster down to 54.
Players from all over the province are vying for a chance to represent Alberta in the Football Canada Cup in Edmonton. The final roster of 40 will be selected later on June 10-11.
The camp schedule begins on Friday at 7-9 p.m. followed by Saturday, May 20 at noon-2 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. The final day is on Sunday from 9 a.m.-noon.
Also on Sunday is the 6-a-side High School All-Star Game at MEGlobal Athletic Park in Lacombe. The game will feature the best players in the league at that level and kickoff is set for noon.
On Monday the Senior Bowl High School All-Star Game will feature the top graduating players in Alberta. At noon at the MEGlobal Athletic Park the North and South teams will play the 33rd annual game.
In Red Deer on Monday the best U16 players in Alberta will play the quarterfinals of the Alberta Summer Games. The top players were divided into eight regional teams to play throughout the day at Great Chief Park. The winners of the games will play in the finals in Okotoks on July 22 during the 2023 Alberta Summer Games.
At 10 a.m. the Edmonton North Elks will play the Central Alberta Huskies followed by the Edmonton North Golden Bears vs. Edmonton North Wildcats at 1 p.m., Calgary Metro Dinos vs. Southern Alberta Knights at 4 p.m., and the Calgary Metro Colts vs. Calgary Metro Stampeders at 7 p.m.
