The Lacombe Generals are league champions in the Allan Cup Hockey West after topping the Rosetown Red Wings in a one game championship final Saturday.
Lacombe edged the regular season’s best team 5-3 on the road in their second game in two nights.
The Red Wings were the top team through the regular season and will host the 2018 Allan Cup National Senior AAA Men’s Championship in April.
The Generals jumped out to a 2-0 lead Saturday in the first period with goals from Kyle Bailey and Keenan Desmet.
Bailey added his second of the night in the middle frame and Jesse Todd also notched a marker to give Lacombe a 4-3 advantage after 40 minutes.
Lacombe’s Dylan McKinlay added an empty net goal to close out the win.
The Generals will now face off against the Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs in the first round of the Alberta Senior AAA Provincials playoffs in a seven-game series.
Game 1 goes on Feb. 18 in Fort Saskatchewan and game 2 will be played on family day at 2:30 p.m. in Lacombe.
