The Lacombe Generals picked up a crucial 2-0 road victory Sunday to open the Allan Cup Hockey West playoffs.

The Generals were only able to beat Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs goalie Devon Fordyce once in the contest, but it was enough to pick up a win.

Lacombe forward Jesse Todd got the only shot past Fordyce with 5:48 to go in the third and Dylan Nowakowski sealed the win with an empty-net goal.

Steven Stanford pitched the shutout for the Generals with 22 saves.

The Generals hold a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-seven series with game two Monday afternoon in Lacombe.
