Generals win big Eagles fall short

The visiting Innisfail Eagles surrendered the final four goals of the game in an 8-3 Chinook Hockey League loss to the Stony Plain Eagles Saturday.

STONY PLAIN — The visiting Innisfail Eagles surrendered the final four goals of the game in an 8-3 Chinook Hockey League loss to the Stony Plain Eagles Saturday.

Scoring for Innisfail, which got out of the opening period tied 1-1 but trailed 7-3 after 40 minutes, were Chad Ziegler, Dan Vandermeer and Mark Bomersback. Adam Chorneyko notched two goals for the winners.

Sheldon Baerg blocked 29 shots as the winning goaltender, while Brayden Hopfe made 27 saves in the Innisfail net. The hosts were one-for-12 on the power play and Innisfail was one-for-11 with a man advantage.

• The Bentley Generals, with Cam Maclise firing three goals, dropped the host Rosetown, Sask., Redwings 6-2 in a senior AAA exhibition game Saturday.

Also scoring for the visitors, who led 1-0 after one period and 4-1 after two, were Keenan Desmet, Curtis Austring and Eric Schneider. Tyler Butler and former Red Deer Rebels forward Shay Stephenson notched the Rosetown goals.

The Redwings were assessed 10 of 19 minor penalties.
