There will be no Junior B hockey in Central Alberta until at least February.

The Heritage Junior B Hockey League announced Friday that the league will be taking an extended holiday break, by cancelling all January games due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

League officials will await word from the Alberta government and Hockey Alberta as to the next steps to restart the season.

Most teams across the league had only played four games before the shutdown in November led to cancelled games in December.

The Red Deer Vipers and Stettler Lightning sit atop the Northern Division through the early stretch, both with 4-0 records. The Rocky Mountain House Rams were 3-0-1 to start the year.

The Mountainview Colts were 1-2-1 and Three Hills was 1-3. Both the Sylvan Lake Wranglers and Ponoka Stampeders didn’t record a win in their opening four-game mini-series.
