This week some of the best high school basketball athletes in central Alberta played their last game.

On Monday the 46th annual Senior Bowl was held at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre showcasing the best talent in 4A and 3A Grade 12 high school basketball in the area.

There were two games that took part that evening. The first featured 27 Grade 12 girls and the second had 30 Grade 12 boys split into teams.

Despite playing against one another the last three years the kids put the rivalries aside to celebrate a great season.

On the girl’s side, team light defeated team dark 88-44. The light team featured players from Hunting Hills, Lacombe, William E. Hay, Lindsay Thurber, and West Central. On the other side, team dark consisted of players from Notre Dame, St. Joseph, Wetaskiwin, Camrose, and HJ Cody.

In the senior boy’s game, it came down to the last minute of play where team light beat team dark 86 - 81.

The dark team consisted of HJ Cody, Wetaskiwin, Camrose, Hunting Hills, and Lacombe. On the light team players from St. Joseph, Lindsay Thurber, William E. Hay, Notre Dame, and West Central were on the court.

On Wednesday this week in Lacombe, they hosted the 1A and 2A senior boys All-Star Game showcasing the best in central Alberta.

In the game team white beat team black 62-31 and league MVP Sean Landry from Spruce View led the way with 14 points but added four rebounds and three steals.

Luke Simo from Caroline and Dustin Quiambao from St. Augustine were right behind with nine points each.

Head coach of Spruce View Shannon Noirot, who also coached team white, said in an email she couldn’t have been prouder of the boys.

“Most of them have never played together before last night, but they came together and figured out how to read each other and you couldn’t tell this was their first time together on the court,” she said.
