The Innisfail Eagles haven’t had the start they’d hoped for at the 2024 Allan Cup Challenge.

The Eagles have been held winless in two games in the tournament taking place in Dundas, Ont. from April 20-27.

In their quest for a Canadian senior AAA national title, the Eagles lost to the Stony Creek Tigers 5-4 on Sunday followed by a 5-2 setback to the host Dundas Real McCoys on Monday.

In their first loss to the Tigers, the Eagles trailed their opponents 4-1 after 40 minutes but pushed in the third period to make it interesting.

Colten Hayes scored to break the shutout before the end of the second period followed by three straight goals from Shawn Bates, Jesse Lees, and Dan Vandermeer to pull within one. Their late push wasn’t enough to fully overcome the deficit.

In their second loss, both Ty Clay and Parker Smyth scored for Innisfail but McCoy’s goaltender Ryan Demelo stood tall making 33 saves to beat the Eagles.

They’ll play one more game in the round-robin tournament game on Wednesday, April 24 at 3 p.m. against the Southern Shore Breakers.

The game is a must-win for the Eagles who will advance to the semi-final on Friday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. if they’re victorious.

The championship final is set for the following day on Saturday, April 27 at 3 p.m.
