International baton twirling competition coming to Red Deer

The Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre will be the site of a unique event this weekend.

The Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre will be the site of a unique event this weekend.

Some of the world’s best baton twirlers are in town from Jan. 17-19 for World Baton Twirling Federation’s (WBTF) 2020 Pan Pacific Cup.

The event will kick off on Friday at 9 a.m., with a brief opening ceremony. Sunday, there will be awards and a parade countries along with closing ceremonies.

The competition is a biannual competition, featuring more than 200 athletes aged nine and up from Canada, Australia, Japan and the U.S.A.

It is free for the public to attend.
