IROC Chiefs sweep through weekend

Midget

Taylor Steele stopped 40 shots in a losing cause as the Red Deer ProStitch Chiefs fell 4-3 to the visiting Southwest Rockies in weekend AA action.

Jesse Rausch, Joel Scheelar and Dustin Reykdal scored for the Chiefs.

It wasn’t a lost weekend for ProStitch, which also pulled out a 5-5 tie with the visiting Strathmore Wheatland Chiefs, getting two goals and a single helper from Kale Treiber and additional goals from Tyler Cassidy, Rausch and Tanner Howe. Tanner Jaillet made 39 saves for ProStitch, outshot 44-24.

• In other AA action, the Red deer Elks split a pair of road games, losing 3-0 to Airdrie and beating Okotoks 4-3.

Josh Elliott had two goals and Stephen Pietsch and Landon Hiebert one each against Okotoks while Jarren Nickle made 37 saves in goal, Brenden Mandrusiak had 23 saves against Airdrie.

Midget 15-year-old

The Red Deer IROC Chiefs enjoyed a productive weekend, winning all three of their starts.

They downed the Chestermere Keystone Raiders 5-2 Friday, stopped the Calgary Bruins 3-1 Saturday and the Calgary Blackhawks 2-0 Sunday.

Brady Bakke and Nick Glackin scored twice each and Bowin Brachman once against the Raiders while Tanner Kovacs made 37 saves in goal.

Dylan Hollman, Luke Scheunert and Bakke had single goals against the Bruins and Hollman and Bryce Boguski connected against the Blackhawks.

Dasan Sydora made 23 saves against the Bruins while Kovacs recorded 33 saves for the shutout against the ‘Hawks.

Midget Girls

Red Deer Sutter Fund swept Cranbrook in a weekend A series.

Goals from Charissa Kadar, Ashley Graf, Emma Malsbury, Marianne Currie and Whitney Sveinson gave Sutter Fund a 5-3 win in the opener. Red Deer prevailed 5-2 in the second contest as Cramer tallied twice and picked up an assist and Kadar, Graf and Robyn Colonna contributed the other goals.

Bantam

The Red Deer Steel Kings were 0-2 in weekend AA action, falling 8-0 to the Airdrie Lightning and 12-1 to the Foothills Bisons.

Brody Thomas made 31 saves against Airdrie and Wyatt Weatherall potted the lone goal against Foothills, which held a 52-18 advantage in shots as Red Deer netminder Jayden Sittler made 40 saves.

Peewee

The Red Deer Holiday Inn Chiefs posted a pair of weekend A wins, edging the Kneehill Chiefs 6-5 and dumping the Rocky Mountain House Vipers 8-3.

Michael Pearce, Curtis Johanson, Dawson Reykdal, Parker Smyth, Ryan Vandervlis and Kyle Rideout scored against Kneehill, while winning goalie Ryley Bosch made 20 saves.

In the victory over Rocky, Rideout recorded a hat trick and Smyth, Vandervlis, Reykdal, Cory Owens and Daniel Billett also scored. Michael Ozga stopped 14 shots for the win.

• Colton Johnson scored twice and set up another goal to lead the Southside Stingers to a 6-5 win over the Safeway Sabres in B action. Also scoring for the winners were Kyle Skogen, Gavin Holm, Jaxon Thompson and Travis Mears, while winning netminder Chase Brewster made 35 saves.
