Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson has left the team and is out indefinitely to spend time with his ill daughter. Iverson will miss at least the remaining three games of Philadelphia’s road trip. Iverson missed five games and the all-star game to be with his family when the health issue surfaced earlier this month. Iverson has not disclosed what is ailing his four-year-old daughter, Messiah. Sixers president Ed Stefanski says it was in the best interest of the team and Iverson to allow him time with his family to deal with a “very serious issue.” Winning the NBA scoring title during the 1998–99, 2000–01, 2001–02 and 2004–05 seasons, Iverson has become one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history, despite his small (listed at 6 feet, 0 inches) stature, with a career scoring average of 26.7 points per game, being sixth all-time. Iverson was also the NBA Most Valuable Player of the 2000–01 season and led his team to the 2001 NBA Finals the same season. A former franchise player, Iverson is believed to have agreed to a one-year non-guaranteed contract at the league minimum salary last year. Iverson would receive a prorated portion of the $1.3 million minimum salary for players with at least 10 years of experience, and the contract would become guaranteed for the remainder of the 2009-10 season if he remained on the roster on January 8, 2010.
