SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Defending champion Jennifer Jones secured a place for Canada in the finals at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts with an 8-5 win over P.E.I.’s Kathy O’Rourke on Friday.

“It wasn’t as sharp as we’d like it to be,” said Jones of the win.

“We made a lot of big shots when we had to. We controlled the game which was good . . . Hopefully we just avoid some of those shaky moments near the end and carry that to the final.”

Jones will be gunning for her fourth Scotties title and third straight win on Sunday.

“I don’t think experience ever hurts but I don’t think you need experience either,” she said. “You always have to win your first one at some point.”

The Jones rink will face the winner of the semifinal on Saturday night.

The semifinal will see P.E.I. take on the winner of the 3-4 page playoff between B.C. and Ontario on Saturday afternoon.

“Certainly we had our chances to score three,” said P.E.I.’s O’Rourke.

“We had a couple of cracks at a three-ender with Erin (Carmody)’s last rock but there was an inch here or a tick there and we were always on the wrong side of it for that game.”

The action continues toay with page playoff and semifinal action.
