Kallis wins junior provincial title

SUNDRE — Red Deer’s Carson Kallis is the new provincial junior boys’ golf champion.

Kallis shot a final round one-under par 71 at the Sundre Golf and Country Club — the only competitor in the field to break par — to run away with the title.

He finished the 54-hole event with a 212 total following rounds of 69-72-71 and finished nine strokes ahead of Scott Lowe of Calgary Pinebrook (67-81-73) and Sang Gyun Lee of Calgary Country Hills (68-74-79).

The 17-year-old Kallis had six birdies and five bogeys while shooting 34-37 Friday.

He will lead the four-man Alberta team at the Canadian championships, Aug. 2-6 in Richmond, B.C.

Spencer Dorowicz of Olds shot a 78-86-76—240 and tied for 46th while 14-year-old Matt Codd of Red Deer tied for 60th after shooting 80-82-81—243. James Ursulak of Ponoka had a 78-82-85—245 and tied for 65th while 13-year-old Brett Pasula of Red Deer shot 82-83-83—248 to tie for 75th.

Jesse Teron, 16, of Red Deer, had rounds of 76-88-87 for a 251 total, which tied him for 81st.

Earlier John Miller and John Sinclair of Red Deer, Dylan Webster of Sundre and Brodie Kilpatrick of Olds missed the cut and Clinton McAllister of Stettler withdrew.

l The second round of the provincial girls’ championship at Edmonton Glendale was washed out.
