Kelsey and Hayley Lalor battle for spots on Team Canada

After the completion of the Women’s Baseball Invitational Championships in Okotoks on Monday, Baseball Canada invited 25 players to Team Canada selection camp.

Those 25 players include Red Deer products Kelsey and Hayley Lalor, who helped Alberta to a bronze medal win at the invitational event featuring the nation’s best female players.

From the list of 25, Canada will select 20 players to represent the nation COPABE Women’s Baseball Pan Am Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico from August 18-25.

That tournament will serve as a qualifier for the 2020 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup. Kelsey represented Canada at the 2018 Women’s Baseball World Cup and was an all-star outfielder.

Hayley is homing to represent Canada for the first time and had a strong showing at the invitational championships last week. She had a .381 batting average, .458 on base percentage and OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) of 1.077, while knocking cashing eight RBI and scoring seven runs.

Kelsey was also clutch at the recent event in Okotoks with a .550 batting average, .615 OBP and 1.315 OPS. She had 11 hits, 11 RBI and five runs scored.

Eight Alberta players in all will battle for spots on Team Canada.
