Kershaw wins second silver

Canadian cross-country skier Devon Kershaw won his second straight World Cup silver medal after a photo finish in the third stage of the Tour de Ski on Sunday.

OBERSTDORF, Germany — Canadian cross-country skier Devon Kershaw won his second straight World Cup silver medal after a photo finish in the third stage of the Tour de Ski on Sunday.

Emil Joensson of Sweden held off the Sudbury, Ont., native to win the 1.2-kilometre sprint, with both skiers finishing in a time of two minutes 34.1 seconds. Dario Cologna of Switzerland was 0.3 seconds behind in third.

Kershaw also won silver on Saturday in the second stage of the event, a 15-kilometre classical handicap race.

Alexander Legkov of Russia was sixth to remain overall World Cup leader with 610 points, while Cologna leads the Tour de Ski standings after three of eight events.

Kershaw moved up to ninth in the overall standings with 245 points.

Slovenia’s Petra Majdic finished ahead of Poland’s Justyna Kowalczyk to win the women’s 1.2-kilometre sprint.

Marit Bjoergen is not taking part in the Tour but still leads the overall World Cup standings with 760 points. Kowalczyk is next with 685 points.

The Tour involves a gruelling eight races in 10 days in five locations in Germany and Italy. It continues Monday with the 10K and 20K mixed pursuits in Oberstdorf.
