Kings and Queens basketball win at Ambrose

Both the RDC Kings and Queens picked up critical victories in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference basketball play on the road Friday night.

Both the RDC Kings and Queens picked up critical victories in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference basketball play on the road Friday night.

The Queens topped the Ambrose University Lions 68-45 behind some strong scoring off the bench.

Freshman guard Paige Schultz poured in four three-pointers and 14 points in 21 minutes of action while third-year Lauren Bailey added nine points.

Third-year forward Emily White had another monster night for RDC with 14 boards and 10 points for the double-double.

Starting guard Eva Bonde also added 10 points in the victory.

The Queens were 68 per cent from the free throw line and almost 40 per cent from three-point range in the game. They jumped out to a massive 41-21 lead at the half and rode a 17-point third quarter to the easy victory.

The Kings also pulled off a massive 94-73 win over the Lions.

Daniel Powell notched another ho-hum double-double with 20 points and 19 rebounds in just 22 minutes of play off the bench.

First-year guard Dshawn Tyrell from Malton, Ont. was the top starter with 17 points while Eric Bakker added 12 boards and 8 points. Solon Ellis also had a big night off the bench with 15 points.

RDC opened up a 50-31 lead at halftime and didn’t look back with another 44 points in the final two quarters.

The Kings will face the Lions at home in a must-win game on Saturday night at 8 p.m.
