This weekend is set to be a busy one at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
The 4-1 RDP Queens basketball team returns to the court after a win last week on home court in their lone game of the weekend. They will host the King's University Eagles at 6 p.m. Friday, before taking on the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The RDP Kings basketball team have lost two of their last three games, but will look to get back on track when they play the Eagles at 8 p.m. Friday. Saturday they'll play the Wolves at 3 p.m. Kings forward José Mauro Barrozo Jr. leads the ACAC with 14.7 rebound per game, while averaging 19.3 points per game.
On the ice, the RDP Queens will host the Medicine Hat Rattlers at 7 p.m. at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. The Queens look to bounce back after losing 3-1 to the Lakeland College Rustlers last Friday. The Queens will also play an afternoon game on Saturday at home, taking on the Rattlers at 1 p.m.
The RDP Kings hockey team is on the road at Briercrest Friday and Saturday.
The Kings and Queens volleyball teams play on the road against the Eagles Friday, before travelling to Grande Prairie to take on the Wolves Saturday. The Kings are ranked number two in Canada, with a 5-0 record. They have only lost two sets on the year.
A pair of volleyball players also earned RDP Athlete of the Week honours.
Red Deer's Lauren Junck, a third-year outside hitter, played a big part in the Queens win over Concordia University Thunder. She pitched in 16 points (13 kills, two service aces and one stuff block) in the road victory. Junck was named the Queens Player-of-the-Game. Over 20 sets, Junck has averaged 3.25 kills (0.407), 1.35 digs and 0.40 service aces per set this season.
Kings setter Drew Dykstra, a freshman from Bentley, helped the Kings remain undefeated on the campaign with a win over the Thunder. The six-foot-five setter accumulated 24 assists, four digs, three service aces and one kill in the victory.
