Kings, Queens hockey earn weekend wins

The RDP Queens cruised past the Medicine Hat College Rattlers 7-2 on Saturday at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

Both the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens hockey teams had the offence rolling on Saturday night. 

The Queens earned a big 7-2 win over the Medicine Hat College Rattlers at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. 

Julie Wagner led the way for the Queens with two goals and an assist, while Hayley Kolosky chipped in three assists and added Addison Longmore had a goal and two assists. Kyla Hansel, Molly Flynn, Mia McGregor and Kaedence Mollin also all scored for the Queens in the victory. Queens goalie Izzy Palumbo stopped eight shots to earn the win. 

The Queens also beat Olds 2-1 in overtime on Friday and have a 5-4 on the season. The Queens will travel to Lloydminster on Friday to take on the Lakeland College Rustlers. 

The Kings pitched a 5-0 shutout in Camrose against the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings. Kristian Lyon stopped all 19 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season.

Five different goal scorers buried for the Kings, Ryland McNinch, Nolan Doell, Kasey Hiemstra, Tanner Sklaruk and Holden Knights each picked up a tally. After three losses to start the year, the Kings have rattled off five straight victories, including a 6-3 win over the Vikings Friday. 

The Kings are off next weekend, before they travel to Saskatchewan for a pair of games against the Briercrest College Clippers. 

On Friday night, the Kings and Queens basketball teams will host the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. Queens tip off at 6 p.m., with the Kings to follow.
