Lacombe Generals open Allan Cup with wild 5-4 overtime win

Myles Bell was the overtime hero in New Brunswick for the Lacombe Generals with just eight seconds remaining in game one of the Allan Cup.

The defending champions opened the tournament against the host Bouctouche JCs and pulled off a wild 5-4 victory in the five-minute extra frame Tuesday night.

Bouctouche opened the scoring on the power play in the first, but Jesse Todd scored twice including a man-advantage marker to give Lacombe a 2-1 lead after 20.

Eric Schneider extended the Generals lead to two with an early second period goal, but the JCs cut the deficit to one midway through the frame.

Ryan Kinasewich put Lacombe up two once again early in the third, but just over a minute later Peter Boyd brought Bouctouche back within one.

Keith Sexton tied the game at four at 9:12 of the third.

The Generals out shot Bouctouche 48-33. Kramer Barnstable made 29 saves for Lacombe in the win.

Lacombe will hunt for their second straight victory of the 2017 Allan Cup Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Grand Falls-Windsor.
