The Lacombe Generals are one win away from becoming Vanberg Cup champions.

The Generals took a 3-1 series lead over the Red Deer Rustlers in Game 4 in the North Central Senior AA Hockey League Vanberg Cup Finals.

Lacombe took the stranglehold on the series after defeating Red Deer 2-1 in overtime last Sunday in Red Deer. The Generals took the 1-0 lead in the first period scored by TJ Brown before Red Deer got the equalizer in the second period off the stick of Cory Pritz.

Brown scored his second of the game in overtime to lift his team to victory. Goaltender Mackenzie Engel had an incredible effort making 57 saves on 58 shots.

Earlier in the finals, the Rustlers took a 1-0 series lead after beating Lacombe on their home ice 6-3. Since then, the Generals have won three straight including a 4-1 win in Game 2 and a 7-3 win in Red Deer.

On Saturday the Generals will have the chance to win the Vanberg Cup in Game 5 on their home ice at 7:30 p.m. If Red Deer wins, Game 6 will be on Sunday in Red Deer at 4:30 p.m. If needed, Game 7 will be held on April 1.
