Local athletes showed up big at the 2020 Alberta Winter Games.

With nearly 1,900 athletes competing at the event from Feb. 14-17 in Airdrie, Zone 4 (which encapsulated close to 150 from mostly Central Alberta) captured 33 medals overall. That earned the Zone the Ministers Cup, awarded to the most improved team at the event.

The female Zone 4 hockey team earned gold.

The male volleyball team earned silver, while the female zone group earned bronze.

Zone 3, of Calgary, took home the top team award, collecting 105 medals overall.
