Hockey Alberta announced Friday the invitees for their U18 Female Summer Development Camp and five local players made the grade.

The camp, which will take place July 11-16 in Camrose features 46 of the best female players born from 200-2002.

They were selected from a group of 88 players that participated in spring showcase earlier this year.

On defence, Carleigh Meraw and Emma Thomas of Red Deer will participate in the event, along with forwards Shae Demale of Red Deer and Pagie Grenier of Olds. Goalie Chantelle Sandquist also was invited.

“Team Alberta would like to congratulate the 46 athletes selected to attend Summer Camp in Camrose,” said Mathieu Provencher, Coordinator of Team Alberta, Female in a press release.

“We’re looking forward to seeing how the players perform and compete during the week-long camp.”

A shortlist of players will be established after the camp and those players will be invited to another camp in the fall before Team Aberta is selected for the 2017 National Women’s Under 18 Championship November 1-5 in Quebec City.
