A pair of local golfers were announced as Alberta Golf Players of the Year Friday.
Red Deer’s Cole Bergheim was celebrated as champion on the McLennan Ross Alberta Junior Tour and Sylvan Lake’s Carter Graf was selected as 2019 Junior Boys Golfer of the Year.
Graf won the Alberta Junior Boys title with a one-stroke victory over Ethan de Graaf at Highwood Golf in High River in July and finished third at the Canadian Junior Boys Championship.
Bergheim played well at the Old Course at the Wolf Creek Golf Club in Ponoka to win the Tour Championship on the McLennan Ross Alberta Junior Tour and also won a gold medal at the Western Canada Summer Games in Swift Current. At the Alberta Schools Athletic Association Golf Championships at Alberta Springs, Bergheim collected a silver medal.
Jayla Kucy of Camrose was also celebrated for her win this summer at the McLennan Ross Alberta Junior Tour Championship at Wolf Creek.
