Local golfers struggle at Sr. men’s championship

Not a single Central Albertan remained under par through the second round of the Fidelity Investments Senior Men’s Championship on Wednesday at the Coyote Creek Golf & RV Resort in Sundre.

SUNDRE — Not a single Central Albertan remained under par through the second round of the Fidelity Investments Senior Men’s Championship on Wednesday at the Coyote Creek Golf & RV Resort in Sundre.

In fact only five golfers in the field of 128 managed to pull of the feat with Allan Ross of Calgary carrying a one stroke advantage at seven-under 135 over Howard Broun of Calgary holds the lead.

The Red Deer golf and Country Club’s Merv Dusyk was the top local player, tied for seventh at two-over par with Tom

Skinner also of RDGCC just one shot further back. Rocky Mountain House’s Dave Raabis was in at five-over and tied for 20th, while Pete Duncan of RDGCC was at six-over and tied for 24th, Jim Hargreaves of Lacombe and Eric Brodie of RDGCC both were tied for 33rd at eight-over.

Sundre’s Les Swain was at even par 71 after the first round, but struggled to a six-over 77 to sit in a tie for 24th after the second round.

Other Central Alberta results included: Peter Sereda of RDGCC tied for 57th at 12-over while Dale Bingham of RDGCC tied for 94th at 21-over par, Michael Prichuk of Sundre tied for 100th at 23-over, George Wallace of RDGCC was in at 112t and 26-over, and Keith Glover of RDGCC 115th at 28-over.

l Red Deer’s Michael and Allan Pruss both missed the cut in the boys’ 15-19 year-old division of the Canadian Junior Golf Association Mizuno National Championship.

The brothers were outside the top 40 after the second round in the 72-hole event in Waterloo, Ont.
