Minor baseball to hold winter conditioning camp
The Red Deer Minor Baseball Association will begin their winter conditioning camp Jan. 23 at their new 12,000 square foot facility in the Clearview Industrial Park.
The camp, which runs to March 19, is open to all levels from mosquito (10-year-olds) and up.
All age groups will receive a minimum of one weekday and one day on the weekend with a rotating schedule. In total each age group will receive close to 20 hours of training.
Registration will be held Jan. 18 from 6:30-8 p.m. upstairs at the Kinex. Cost will be $150 per player.

Nauticals nab four medals
The Sylvan Lake Nauticals received four medals at the Sherwood Park swim meet during the weekend. Tasheena Sjolie was a double medalist winning the quadrathon and the 13-year-old girls division.
Elizabeth Moore was the high point medalist for eight-and-under girls, and Matthew Gauthier for 10-year-old boys.
Gauthier also qualified for the provincial trials.
Blarney Stone downs Knights
Justin Hicks poured in 38 points as the Blarney Stone downed the Knights 80-70 in Central Alberta Senior Men’s Basketball Association action Sunday.
Chris Ferguson added 15 points for the winners.
The Red Deer Parkland Transmission Chiefs dropped a pair AA games during the weekend, losing 3-1 to Okotoks Saturday and 6-4 to Red Deer TBS Chiefs Sunday.
Kale Howarth scored against Okotoks while Branden Bilodeau finished with 33 saves. Howarth added a pair of goals against TBS with Brenden Baker and Landon MacKenzie potting single markers. Cole Sears made 26 saves.
The Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs split a pair of weekend games, beating Camrose Ice Cats 10-1 Sunday and losing 4-3 to the Bentley Canucks Saturday.
Becky Davidson scored three times against Camrose with Shaina Davis and Carley Wlad adding two goals each and Mairead Bast, Brooke Cassidy and Lexi Davis one each. Kali Vail made 13 saves in goal while her teammates finished with 33 shots.
Bast scored twice and Cassidy once against Bentley, who got all four goals from Shealee Dolan. Red Deer held a 25-29 edge in shots on goal.
