Red Deer Adam Taekwondo members captured seven medals in a weekend invitational sparring tournament at Provost.

Liam Standish was a double medal winner, taking second in the black belt division and bronze in the black stripe belt category.

Sara Koswin won gold in the female green stripe belt division while Kendra Humphrey picked up a silver in the female red stripe belt section and Paul Puffer settled for silver in the male yellow stripe belt division.

Sean Lowe (male yellow stripe belt) and Victoria Standish (female black stripe belt) both won bronze medals.


Ski events set

The Red Deer Ski Club will host a pair of events Feb. 6-7 at Canyon.

On Saturday, Edmonton and Central Alberta skiers between the ages of 10 and 18 will compete in a Sport Chek Regional Series race. Competitors 10 and under will race in a Nancy Greene event the following day.


Grizzlys tumble to Eagles

OLDS— The Olds Grizzlys were sitting pretty after 40 minutes, then coughed up a trio of early third-period goals and fell 3-2 to the Canmore Eagles in Alberta Junior Hockey League action Tuesday.

Landon Kadatz gave the Grizzlys a 1-0 first-period lead and Jordan Kwas doubled the margin in the middle frame. But the visitors pulled to within one when Cody Cartier notched a power-play goal at 1:06 of the third period, and drew even on Bryden McGhee’s marker just 69 seconds later.

Then, at 3:46, Tyler Horton scored on the power play and the visitors pulled off the come-from-behind victory before 497 fans at the Sports Complex.

Canmore netminder Sam Brittain stopped 22 shots, while Brayden Hopfe made 24 saves for Olds.


Lightning to play Wildcats in hoop tournament opener

The host Lightning will take on the Stettler Wildcats at 3 p.m. Friday in each of the opening games in the boys and girls divisions of the Hunting Hills Grade 9 basketball tournament.

The Lindsay Thurber Raiders teams will face the girls and boys squads from Sylvan Lake H.J. Cody at 4:30 p.m. Other teams competing in the two-day event are Morinville, Strathmore, Red Deer Lake and Calgary St. Francis.

The tournament resumes at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and will conclude with both finals at 7 p.m.


Ladies Basketball

RDC Black got 10 points each from Kaetlyn Westerlund and Rose Wiebe in downing the Storm 54-39 in North Star Sports Ladies Basketball League play Monday.

Becky Perrin had 14 points for the Storm.

In other action Veronica DenOudsten had 33 points and Jill Potts 23 as the Hot Shots beat the North Stars 64-49.

Kelsey Sinclair had 12 points in a losing cause.
