Razorbacks split doubleheader
BEISEKER — The Red Deer Razorbacks split a Parkland Baseball League twin bill with the Beiseker Canadians Sunday, losing 8-2 and winning 10-9.
Tom Rodzinyak took the loss in the opener, allowing five hits, walking six and fanning seven.
Mark Luchenski had a pair of singles for the Razorbacks,
The Razorbacks scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning in the second game.
Rodzinyak lead off the inning with a walk and was sacrificed to second, but was out at the plate following a Cody Huseby single. Huseby went to second on the play and scored on Kevin Stelmaschuk’s single to right.
Quinn Rose started on the mound and worked four innings with Darcy Warawa going the final three.
Huseby had a pair of singles while Stelmaschuk added a single and a triple and Don Von Hollen a double.
The Razorbacks, 9-6, visit the Rocky Mountain House Red Dogs Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Hall of Famers to take on media all-stars
A generous gathering of Canadian Football League Hall of Fame players will be at Great Chief Park on Friday to face the Red Deer Media All-Stars in a charity slowpitch game billed as the Celebrity Challenge.
Former CFL greats Rocco Romano, Alondra Johnson, Willie Pless, Herm Harrison and Terry Evanshen, along with Peewee Smith, will appear in the game against the team from Big 105 FM and 106 The Drive.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the Big 105 Tim Horton’s Snow Camp.
Al-Terra provincial bronze
Red Deer AL-Terra Engineering captured bronze at the provincial bantam A lacrosse championships during the weekend.
They beat the Calgary Sabrecats 6-5 in overtime in the bronze medal game.
The Red Deer crew posted a 2-2 record in round-robin play, beating the Calgary Axemen 7-4 and Lethbridge 16-3 and losing 6-5 to the Edmonton Warriors and 4-3 to the Calgary Hornets.
Braves have rocky weekend
The Red Deer Sutter Fund Braves recorded a 1-2 record in bantam AA baseball league play during the weekend.
The Braves split with Wetaskiwin — losing 11-4 and winning 9-8 — and dropped a 12-2 decision to Viking.
Jayden Hutlet had three singles and a walk in the loss to Wetaskiwin.
Tristin Rieu had a walk, two singles and two RBIs in the victory while Chandler Knibb added a pair of singles, Jusung Lee a single and three walks, Ty Elliott a walk, two RBIs and a hit by a pitch and Craig See a single and a pair of base on balls.
Jordan Braumberger had a pair of walks against Viking.
Northstar Braves in slugfest
The Red Deer Northstar Braves posted a 2-1 record in peewee AA baseball league play in Okotoks during the weekend.
The Braves lost 10-8 to Okotoks while beating the Oyen Rangers 17-12 and the Lacombe Dodgers 16-15.
Cody Domoney led the Braves was four-for-four day against Okotoks with two RBIs, four stolen bases and three runs.
David Coley had two hits, including his fourth home run of the season, drove in four runs and scored three times against Oyen.
Michael Ozga had three hits and three runs batted in while Mack Differenz and Matt Lyons drove in two runs each.
Evan Petriew picked up the win.
Domoney was three-for-three against Lacombe with a pair of runs batted in on a two-run double in the seventh, which tied the game.
He scored the winning run on an infield single by Lyons.
Jeff Muirhead had four hits in five trips to the plate while Petriew had two hits and three RBIs and Steve Stammers tripled and drove in two runs.
Ozga had three RBIs and Differenz recorded the win.
DQ Braves swept by Cardinals
ST. ALBERT — The Red Deer Dairy Queen Braves lost 16-6 and 5-1 to the St. Albert Cardinals in peewee AAA baseball league play Sunday.
Joel Mazurkewich had a single and a double and drove in two runs in the opener while Brenden Baker had a pair of singles and Levi Moon a two-run single.
In the nightcap, Moon and Mike Pruss both collected a double.
Moon started on the mound and allowed one run over five innings of one-hit ball while striking out four.
Reliever Brett Barrett was tagged with the loss.
