Pristine conditions at the Alberta Springs Golf Resort led to a local jumping out ahead of the pack at the Alberta Golf U17 Championship.

Logan Graf, who plays out of Red Deer Golf and County Club but lives just down the road from Alberta Springs in Sylvan Lake, had the round of the day Tuesday.

Graf carded a three-under-par 69 in the opening round. He was the only player under par in the age group, with Red Deer’s Cole Bergheim hot on his heels with an even-par 72.

Red Deer County’s Alex Gerrard is also in the hunt, he shot a one-over 73 Tuesday.

The U13, U15 and U17 Alberta Golf Championship, formally known as the Bantam Championship, is a 36 hole event and wraps up Wednesday afternoon at Alberta Springs.
