Marcum out duelled

Shaun Marcum stood toe-to-toe with the American League’s defending Cy Young Award winner Zach Greinke Wednesday afternoon, but the big mistake he made was larger than the one made by Grienke, leaving Marcum to continue the search for his first win as the ace of the Toronto Blue Jays rotation.

TORONTO — Shaun Marcum stood toe-to-toe with the American League’s defending Cy Young Award winner Zach Greinke Wednesday afternoon, but the big mistake he made was larger than the one made by Grienke, leaving Marcum to continue the search for his first win as the ace of the Toronto Blue Jays rotation.

Toronto fell in the 10th inning to the Kansas City Royals when third baseman Alex Gordon blasted a pitch from Scott Downs over the wall in centre to beat the Blue Jays lost 4-3.

Marcum allowed six hits over seven innings, his big mistake being a three-run home run in the first inning.
